DIY suede & gold striped mini clutch with ModPodge #ModPodgeHoliday

11/14/2013

stripeclutchWhenever Christmas comes around , my Mod Podge gets a lot of use! I was happy to take part in this campaign for Mod Podge because 1. I needed some new Mod Podge anyway, and 2. I always use a lot of it in my holiday crafting projects. I find it just works better then plain old glue or other decoupage products. To read about all the cool formulas, you can check out Mod Podge’s page on the  Plaid Site.

I had some suede pieces from an old vest I bought at the thrift shop and a gold zipper and decided it would be fun to make a small zippered clutch to give as a Christmas present. Or maybe I will just keep it for myself!  However, this project is so easy I’ll probably make a few more to give as gifts. I like the mixture of the suede with the glitter.

Here’s how I made it.

clutchsuppliesSupplies:

  • 1  7 inch gold zipper
  • two 6 by 8 inch suede pieces
  • Mod Podge Sparkle
  • Mod Podge stencil sponge brush
  • Gold glitter
  • Folk Art gold paint
  • sewing machine, thread, scissors
  • 1 inch painters tapeclutchtutorial1Sew the long ends of the pouch to the zipper as shown, making sure the stitching is on the wrong side of the zipperclutchtute2Open the zipper fold both pieces together , right side to right side and stitch with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Trim the corners when you are done. clutchtute3Pull the clutch right side out through the zipper opening.Use something sharp to neaten the corners.clutchtute4Tape the stripes with the 1 inch painters tape.clutchtute5Paint stripes with gold paint and let dry.cluthctute6Add a coat of Mod Podge and sprinkle with a  good amount of glitter. Once dry add another coat of Mod Podge to seal it.DIYStripeClutch
